Visitor Rant

When we brought our son home, we knew that we would have visitors over the next several weeks. I was not opposed to having people visit. My son is so precious, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I enjoy showing him off to people. Anyway, visitors were not and are still not the problem I have. The problem I have is when people call my cell phone and my husband’s cell phone several times in a row within a few minutes just because they want to visit the baby. The other day, someone called my husband’s cell three times within five minutes and then called my cell twice. My son was taking a nap in his car seat in the living room, and I was napping on the couch next to him. The phone calls disturbed both of us, and I thought with the phone ringing so many times within a short amount of time that there was some emergency so I decided to listen to my voicemail. It was just a family member who wanted to come visit the baby the next day. I was very irritated because I then had to get my son back to sleep which, as any parent knows, is not always easy to do. From now on I think we need to keep our ringers off. I also have a family member who texts or calls several times everyday asking about the baby and when she can see him again. I know she cares, but being a new mother I am extremely exhausted, so as much as I enjoy showing off my son, sometimes I prefer to be left alone so that I can get as much rest as possible.

The other issue I have had with visitors since we brought our son home has been when people stopped by unannounced and I can’t get to the door because I’m busy with my son, and then they become upset with me. This often happened when I was breastfeeding or pumping. When I was breastfeeding, I was not going to stop feeding my son, throw my shirt on, and run to the door. My son had to come first. When I was pumping, I wasn’t going to stop because once my son woke up I wouldn’t have time to pump. My husband had to go back to work the week after our son was born, so he hasn’t always been home to answer the door when visitors have stopped by.

You should make a sign for your door, something cute a friendly. Like, “Newborn Napping, Feeding, or Keeping my hands busy”
